U.S. Kung Fu Federation (Eastern Branch) 1999 New Years Dinner
March 24, 1999 a delegation of the United Sates Martial Arts Association attended the Annual New Years Dinner of the Eastern Branch of the United States Kung Fu Federation. The dinner was held in Boston, MA at the China Pearl Resturant on Taylor Street. Food and festivities were the order of the evening and everything with a Chinese flare.
Few people ever have the chance to eat real Chinese food , and variety is the conner stone of the meal. From seafood and vegtables to duck, beef, chicken, and some items delicious but unknown. Presentation was incredible and the hard part was deciding when to stop looking and when to start eating.
Almost everyone there joined in the entertainment by performing Kareoke to pre-taped music (many times in Chinese!). Both ends of the spectrum were reached during this part of the evening.
Martial Arts were not forgotten, and there were many spectacular demonstrations from Tai Chi Chuan to Hung Gar Fu Hok. Absolutely everyone was polite and courteous to everyone else for the entire evening.
One of the high points of the evening was the traditional Lion Dance to bring in the New Year. The musical beat, set up by the drums and cymbals, began the performance and set a electric atmosphere. The dancers were versatile and graceful, as the lions leaped and swooped around the floor. It was enough to make you believe you were in old China.
The evening finally ended with fond memories for all and all looking for next years dinner.
