MACKO is an acronym for Melbourne's American Combat Karate Organization..... and Combat is the key word in this. A regional organization centered in Bradford, Rhode Island, it was founded by Kenneth Melbourne, 9th dan Kempo Jitsu, who believes in real life application in his art. "Sport" or Competition" are not words you will hear much in the MACKO organization, and training is centered on the practical value of techniques.
While Kempo jitsu is the main art of the MACKO group, there are also Judo, Ju-jitsu, and Traditional Karate schools affiliated with this organization. The furthest south this organization has spread is Kentucky, and the furthest north is Maine.
